WNBL Indigenous Round

Art and Storytelling are foundational to the First Nations community. It keeps Indigenous history alive and maintains a connection to the past, through stories of the present that will live on in the future.

Under the theme ‘More Than Players’, we commissioned Indigenous artist Desirai Saunders to create empowered depictions of three young Indigenous athletes. Bringing their personal and cultural stories to life, to highlight their impact on First Nations communities, both on and off the court.

Enhanced through a cultural trip to Darwin where we saw, experienced and captured the real-life impact each athlete is having on Country, led by First Nations filmmaker Jordan Watton. Highlighting the impact that can be made when women - particularly those who are Indigenous - are supported and celebrated.
